Uttarakhand Institute of Rural Development, Rudrapur, Udham Singh Nagar was established on 16th September, 2002 vide the Uttarakhand Government Notification no. 3/F.R.D/2002 dated 16.09.2002 as autonomous Institute under the Society Registration Act, 1860.It functions under the control & superintendent of a "Governing Body" consist of 10 members under the chairmanship of Hon'ble Minister Rural Development Government Of Uttarakhand.The Management of Uttarakhand Institute of Rural Development is vested with a Seven Members "Executive Committee". UIRD shall function as the apex Institute under the Rural Development and Panchayati Raj Sector in the state.

             The Institute has been designated as a nodal agency for carrying out evaluation studies under various watershed as a nodal Institute for the documentation of CDOs meetings and workshops in the Rural Development Department.The main Campus of the Institute is under Development in 45 acres of land with the support and funding from Ministry of Rural Development,Government of India and State Government Uttarakhand.The mandate of UIRD is to facilitate Rural development vigorously through government and non-governmental initiatives. UIRD is undertaking training, Research, Action research and consultancy services in Rura Develonpment and Panchayati Raj Area .
