     The Department of Social Welfare in Uttarakhand implements welfare schemes for the Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, Backward Classes, Minorities and Persons with Disabilities. It is also responsible for providing support systems for destitute women, orphans and children in conflict with law.
 
Objectives

• Improve the quality of life of the downtrodden and the destitute.
• Provide social security for the old, the infirm and the handicapped.
• Build capacity of the deprived sections of the society to secure better
   livelihood. Also work for the alleviation of poverty amongst them.
• Protect civil rights of the SCs & STs.
