Ramesh Pokhriyal 'Nishank': A Brief Introduction |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|
Dr. Ramesh Pokhriyal 'Nishank' was born in a humble family at
village Pinani in district Pauri Garhwal of Uttarakhand, Himalaya. He obtained primary education from his village school and High
School certificate from Government Inter College' Damdeval, situated a few
KMs away from his native village. He is inspired with the spirit of nationalism ever since his
childhood. He always participated in school functions, debates and sung
nationalistic songs from stage which has been his favourite theme for his poetry. Dr.'Nishank' got his higher education in Hardwar. He choose
career of a teacher and writer and devoted his life to the noble cause of
Hindi literature. Despite his engagements in active-politics, in which he has
risen to position of the CM of the state from a very humble background, he
has continued his literary journey uninterruptedly. Dr. Nishank's first collection of poems 'Samarpan' was
published in 1983 and he has not looked backward since then. His 11
anthologies of poems, 7 collections of stories and 2 novels have already been
published so far; in addition to 4 novels, 3 story collections, a yatra-guide
and an anthology of poems that are under- publication. ·
Sir Anirudh Jagannath, The President, Republic of Mauritius, "The contributions
made by Dr.'Nishank' to the propagation of literature and culture will prove
to be a milestone for others". ·
Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, the then president of India, released the
seventeenth book & tenth poetry collection Ae Watan Tere Liye of Dr. 'Nishank'
at 'Rashtrapati Bhawan' on the 24th july 2007. Dr. Kalam arranged for
translation of these poems into English. On the occasion, Dr. Kalam
said-" I read, felt and contemplated over the great creaton of
Dr.'Nishank' "Ae Watan Tere Liye". I firmly believe that
Nishank's Ganga-like poetry originating from the Himalaya shall prove to be a
foundation- stone in the process of nation building. Dr.'Nishank' has made
his presence felt as a poet, like bright shining sun. His incessant literary
journey shall play a big role in enriching and enhancing Hindi
language." ·
Atal Bihari Vajpayee, the ex Prime Minister of India released Dr.'Nishank's
collection of stories 'Khare Hue Prashna' in New Delhi in 2007 and
said -"Despite his engagements in active-politics, Dr. 'Nishank' is
active in the field of literature, this is something which can't be done by
ordinary people. I believe that he will force the office bearers to realise
their duties through significant questions raised by him through his
writings." ·
Dr. Shankar Dayal Sharma, the then President of India, honoured
Dr.'Nishank' and released his poetry Matri Bhoomi Ke Liye in 1992 and
said- "Today,such literature as may arouse the feelings of devotion and
sacrifice towards nation and society,
needs to be created earnestly. Dr.'nishank's book Matri Bhoomi Ke Liye
containing patriotic poems deserves to be applauded. The Himalayan region has
always been a source of inspiration, and creation of such poetry from there
is an attempt to keep the unity and integrity of the nation intact. This
needs to be encouraged." ·
Giani Zail Singh, the then President of India, released Dr. Nishank's poetry
Desh Hum Jalane Na Denge in 1984 and said-"Young Nishank by means of his patriotic poems has made
the nation proud. I am happy to know that Dr.'Nishank' has great love for
Hindi. He belongs to a very backward region, and I feel proud of the fact
that he wants to do something for his mother-land. " ·
Padma Shree Dr. Rama Nand Sagar, and Padma Shree Raveendra
Jain
jointly released poetric work of Dr.'Nishank' Koi Mushkil Nahin. On
the occasion Padma Shree Sagar said-"I have always been an admirer of
Dr.Nishank's nationalistic creations, and have always seen him as a national
poet. These patriotic poems need to be propagated." Padma Shree Ravindra
Jain said-"I would like to sing Dr. 'Nishank's songs. His songs inspire
to move ahead with hope even when one is utterly disappointed". ·
Amitabh Bachchan, said-"Words never die; and these patriotic songs shall
live forever on people's tongue". ·
Anupam Kher, the noted actor said-"The nation needs such feelings.
The opportunists forget these values of love for nation. Dr. 'Nishank's
poetry is aimed at inculcating nationalistic feelings in the youth." ·
Padam Shree Shyam Singh 'Shashi', renowned author said-"Dr.Nishank's
poetry is able to express his patriotic feelings. His songs are full of love
for his mother- land". ·
Padma Shree Vidya Niwas Mishra, a well known author
said-"This poet from Himalaya is ready to fill the hearts of the people
with love for the mother- land. Dr.'Nishank' is a torch-bearer in this
field". ·
Dr. Harivansh Rai Bachchan said-"feelings in Samarpan and Navankur
are great. The poet has expressed himself in simple and impressive
language". ·
Padma Shree Ruskin Bond said- "The confluence of politics and
literature is rare. Atal Bihari Vajpayee in Delhi and Dr. 'Nishank' in
Uttarakhand are engaged in better politics and better literary activities
simultaneously, which is seldom to be seen. The day to day life of the common
people living difficult lives, along with the pain of the hilly regions, in
general, finds an expression in Dr.Nishank's poetry. ·
Dr. M. Govind Rajan, Secretary, Bhasha Sangam, Chennai said- "Dr. Nishank is
a bright author. His literature inspires people to achieve aims of their
respective lives; and also as to how to overcome the difficulties." ·
Dr. P. Jayaraman, Founder & Executive Director, Bharatiya Vidya Bhawan,
New York, USA said- " Dr. 'Nishank's creations are the poetic-streams of
patriotisim emanating from the Himalaya. Such a literature should be
translated into different languages of the country,so that the incessant
stream of patriotism may keep on flowing in the whole country." ·
Dr. Bala Showarry Reddy, President, Tamilnadu Hindi Academy, said-"Translation
of Dr.Nishank's creations in Tamil and Telugu from Hindi is an excellent
work, and for this, Madras University needs to be congratulated. This will not only spread Hindi in the
South, but also help in spreading the feelings of nationalism among the
masses." ·
Prof. Tatania of Afro-Asian Institute, Germany said- "Creations of
Dr.'Nishank' contain live pictures of Indian Culture. His literature also
needs to be translated into other languages of the world." ·
Prof. David Frowley, renowned American writer said- "Dr.'Nishank' is a
renowned writer of India. His literature is available in many languages. The
grief of the down-trodden people finds an expression in his writings. The
pain of the poor and backward people is found to be the same in the whole world,
so, his writings are living examples of the struggle of the backward classes
of the entire world." ·
Lata Mangeshakar said "Dr. Nishank's patriotic songs are inspirational
for the society. I will definitely sing these patriotic songs of Dr. Nishank,
for a patriotic song "Ae Mere
Watan Ke Logo" has earned me a lot of fame in the world." Dr. Nishank's literary
